Stand-alone Dynamic Dog assessment
I work together with other canine professionals where pain and discomfort could be the contributing factor to their client's dog’s behaviour. Please contact me to discuss.
For example, I worked alongside a Canine Separation Anxiety Specialist; she and her client suspected that pain might be a contributing factor to the dog's behaviour presentation. They live in America; however, using Zoom and WhatsApp, I carried out a Dynamic Dog Assessment, keeping both the SA specialist and the client in the loop and was in contact with the dog's vet via email.
Result: The Dynamic Dog assessment highlighted postural and gait issues and a subsequent appointment was made to see the Vet, with an emailed Dynamic Dog report. On seeing my report, the vet referred the dog to a specialist orthopaedic vet, and a CT scan and assessment were carried out. Unfortunately, bilateral hip dysplasia was diagnosed. However, the client now has a treatment plan, which includes medication to manage pain, lifestyle changes and possible surgery. They also recommended physiotherapists and hydrotherapists, as part of a multi-modal approach to the treatment.
This case emphasises the importance of early assessment in managing health issues. The dog in question was young and had this assessment not been carried out, and highlighting this link between unwanted behaviour and the possibility of pain/discomfort, no behavioural progress would have been made, and the dog's condition would have deteriorated.
